Thing #22
I feel that going to the Overdrive training given by Didi Morganti made me want to use Overdrive more in the future. I am excited that it'll be compatible with I-Pods in January. I like the fact that you can also download movies and music, in addition to books.

Thing #21 Podcasts
Okay, so I put NPR the Diane Rehm's show onto my Google Reader and also NPR books on Google Reader. This was perhaps one of the few non-frustrating tasks thus far. I did go to podcastalley but was rather offended by some of the content so I chose not to explore it too much.

Thing #20 3rd times a charm
Okay it took me 3 tries and some frustration, but I finally got some YouTube stuff on this blog! The first is my college choir director on the right talking about their Christmas concert which I always miss because I'm in SA and it's in Seattle. The second is a promotional commerical for Family Ties TV show.

Thing #19
For Thing #19, I explored Craigslist. I narrowed it down to the San Antonio area and looked up stuff that I was interested in. This included vacation home rentals, DVD's/movies for sale, and collectibles such as depression glass. I enjoyed doing this exercise and probably could have stayed on it longer. I also liked that the site had warnings to meet in a public place, tell friends, bring cell phone when meeting the seller.

Thing #18
As I went into the Google Docs I could see some advantages and disadvantages. I went to the document section...now from the tutorial it looks like people would be able to see and edit the document--an advantage. Would I use it at work...no a wiki seems to be a better discussion forum and I think an e-mail attachment works just fine. Would I use it in my personal life--probably not.

Thing #17 Wiki's cont
Thanks to Rock and Roll Librarian for telling us the password to login to the Favorite Wiki's page. I added items for favorite restaurant and favorite place to vacation. I think I added my blog to the Favorite blogs but I got frustrated with the link thing. So I am done with this one.

Thing #16
I looked at a couple of Wiki sites. The first was "Library Success, Best Practices". This wiki is a one-stop place for great ideas within libraries. I looked at a link from the Ann Arbor Public Library and they talked about a librarian training camp to train their staff by sharing ideas from workshops they had attended.
Then, I went to the Librarian Chick's wiki and that was filled with fun information, organized in a clear manner. I went to the kids link and then Natl Geographic and found games for kids. I'll have to go back to this one!

Thing #15
I read both the Wikipedia article and the Library 2.0 information. It seems that the library is trying to make technology more user friendly and letting the user also having some control of technology within the OPAC. The Librarian's 2.0 Manifesto also was realistic--libraries are slow to change--whether SAPL plans to utilize this technology through train the trainer with staff, and getting some librarians to teach Library/Web 2.0 to the customer.

Thing #14 Technorati
Discovery excerise putting Library 2.0 into the blog posts and the tags resulted the same results--5,330 or so results.

Thing #12 Del.icio.us
This way of tagging and social bookmarking, explained in the Del.icio.us tutorial seems like a great way to organize information in one place. In addition, since it is public, it is a place to find topics of interest and resources that relate to those topics in one place.

#11
I really did pick 4 websites related to "Auditioned Handbell Groups". I guess it works, kind of.
Thing #11 Rollyo
It was easy to pick a topic for Rollyo--handbells! I had some trouble creating my own and getting it onto the blog. Haven't clicked on it to see if it works or anything. It seems like I always missing one step and then I randomly figure it out by luck and can't remember how I did it.

Thing #11
Okay Thing #11 ticked me off. I already had a GoodReads account; I finally found out about widgets, and I followed the seemingly simple directions to cut and paste. After getting a "Does not fit" message 2 times, I finally pasted it into a post and clicked Edit HTML in desperation. Wa la it worked.

Thing #10 revisited
I got this balloon image from that James Reader site that was recommended. My brain is tired from being here at 5:45 for early voting so that's all I'm going to have fun with today.

Thing #9 more RSS Feeds
I'm not sure whether I'd have time to search for RSS feeds very much. I'm doing this on Mon. morning when we are closed, did you notice? I did use Feedster and subscribed also to Austin PL's blog and SAPL's Good Reads Blog.
Thing #8 RSS Feeds
I like RSS Feeds because it puts all your websites in one place--in the Google Reader. So all I have to do now is go to my Google acct to find websites that are in one place.
Thing #7/Technology
Okay, I am now on "Thing #7". However, I gave my Flickr Cheat Sheet to a co-worker and that link no longer works on the syllabus. Hint hint, please fix--I have a librarian trading card from Thing #6 that I would love to get on my blog....
So I am obviously not that technological..however, exposing us to the 23 Things is definitely making me think about it more.

23 Things
Okay, I have this blogging thing down. Now I just have to remember my user name and password for the flickr account I created. I forgot to write it down....boo hoo.

River City Ringers
Okay, so I'm in this auditioned community handbell group called River City Ringers. We are having our Christmas concerts at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church on Fri. Dec 5 at 7:30 p.m., First Baptist Church in Fredericksburg on Sat. Dec 6 at 7:00 p.m. and St. John something Church in Boerne on Sun. Dec 7 at 3:00 p.m. Check out our website at www.rivercityringers.org
Handbell Junkie
I am a children's librarian and a handbell junkie. Handbells are instruments that require at least 13-14 people to perform a decent concert. Think of each handbell as a key on the piano. Most elite groups have a 5 octave set. You can find more info at the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers, www.agehr.org A handbell junkie is a person who plays handbells, probably in a church, auditioned community group or both as this one does.
